Diversity in the Align Program

Isabel Su and Mark Bonicillo have very different backgrounds, yet their desire to move in a new direction and their dedication to this goal brought both to Northeastern’s Align program, where they started down the rewarding path of software engineering. Align is a pathway to a Master’s degree in Computer Science that provides an opportunity for those without a traditional computer science background to move into the world of tech. As such it casts a broad net, attracting applicants from all over the world. This has allowed students like Isabel and Mark to move into their dream careers. It has also led Northeastern to be a leader in providing much needed diversity to the tech industry workforce. As Kamna Shastri reports in the International Examiner, “For the incoming class of fall 2018, close to 50% of the students are women, and 15% are Hispanic, Latino, African-American, Native American, or Pacific Islander.”
