Align Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence
Northeastern’s Align Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence lets you launch your AI career from any background. You’ll begin with a two-semester introduction that provides the foundational knowledge and tools you’ll need to succeed as you earn your degree. You’ll then move into your master’s curriculum, engaging in coursework that covers topics including machine learning, vision, intelligent interaction, robotics/agent systems, and knowledge management and reasoning.
Program Overview
This Program allows motivated students and professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline to earn a master’s degree in artificial intelligence (AI). Technology thrives on new and unexpected ideas. Your unique perspective belongs in AI. Join peers from 150-plus disciplines, hold an optional paid co-op or internship, and learn with expert faculty.
In Align, you’ll use your unique background and new computer science skills to solve problems across industries using AI. Take a leadership role in a rapidly growing sector with expertise in areas like computer vision, intelligent interaction, robotics and agent-based systems, machine learning, or knowledge management and reasoning. You’ll design, develop, and maintain AI systems that are changing the world we live in—with responsible, human‑centric AI at the core. With more diversity of thought in tech, you can help build a better world.
Apply to Align, with no need to reapply after completing the academic bridge courses. You’re admitted to the Align MS in AI from the beginning, for a total program length of 2 1/2 to 3 years. You can study full time or part time and boost your resumé with an optional paid four- to eight-month co-op or internship—graduating in as little as 2.5 years with the expertise to lead and build real-world AI.
How the align program works
Concentration
Machine learning (ML): Design solutions for health, finance, and beyond. Build models that predict hospital admissions or detect fraud. In advanced ML and natural language processing, you’ll learn to handle complex data and deploy ethical, resilient AI systems. This concentration is offered by Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
Program Objectives
The Align MS in Artificial Intelligence will prepare you to meet graduate‑level standards in computer science and AI via the academic bridge, then going on to:
- Understand representations, algorithms, and techniques used across the AI industry and academia and be able to apply and evaluate them in applications as well as develop your own.
- Understand the basic processes that an agent must perform, from perceiving its environment, making decisions on how to act and performing those actions, as well be able to develop and evaluate the technology that can be used to perform these processes.
- Understand and apply machine learning techniques to draw inferences from data and help automate the development of AI systems and components.
- Understand the various ways and reasons humans are integrated into mixed human-AI environments, whether it is to improve overall integrated system performance, improve AI performance, or influence human performance and learning.
- Understand the ethical concerns in developing responsible AI technologies.
- Model human behavior, develop human-AI systems, and evaluate their performance.
