The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) provides a comprehensive framework of theory and practice in the emerging field of AI. The program delivers the foundational knowledge needed to explore both key contextual areas and complex technical applications of AI systems. Curriculum incorporates elements of health data, robotics, computer vision and machine learning—enabling you to pursue a holistic and interdisciplinary course of study while preparing for a position in AI research, operations, software or hardware development, or doctoral degree in a sector poised for explosive growth.

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence is a dynamic, interdisciplinary program that prepares students to lead innovation in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

  • Develop advanced skills in AI to design, develop, and maintain AI systems that change the world.
  • Go beyond learning AI as a tool through real-world applications of industry-aligned concentrations: machine learning (ML), robotics and agent-based systems, computer vision, and health data.
  • Build experience and connections—Northeastern is an institutional leader in human-centric and responsible AI.
  • Hold an optional full-time paid co-op or internship with a partner company or current employer.

Khoury College of Computer Sciences

  • Machine learning: Gain hands-on experience developing and applying advanced machine learning models to solve real-world problems across industries.
  • Robotics and agent-based systems: Develop intelligent robots and autonomous agents, focusing on automation, interaction, and smart system design.

College of Engineering

  • Computer vision: Apply AI and ML to advanced visual tasks, including image restoration, rendering, navigation, and pattern classification.

Bouvé College of Health Sciences

  • Health data: Apply AI and ML to real-world health challenges, working with clinical, public health, and wellness data to build equitable and responsible health technologies.

Experiential Learning

This degree prepares you for leadership roles in AI through collaborative projects, research, and the real-time challenges of corporate partners. Northeastern is a leader in co-ops and internships—taking a fully experiential approach to AI. You’ll learn to develop programs that solve problems like:

You can opt to include a four- to eight-month full-time, paid co-op in AI as part of your program. We partner with top companies, creative startups, and nonprofits across industries. You may also be able to build a co-op with your current employer.
