Abstract: JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) is a API programming interface Software Engineers use to integrate Java with Relational Databases. In this presentation, discussion topics will include an overview of JDBC, along with salient points for consideration when programming JDBC, such as JDBC Drivers, automatic driver loading, programming approaches to submitting SQL to the RDBMS, transaction handling, connection pooling, SQL Injection and appropriate exception handling.
Bio: Between Industry and teaching experience, David Blodgett has over 25 years of experience in Computer Science and Software Engineering. He has worked in the industry as a Senior Software Engineer in the Energy, Consumer Product Goods and Financial Sectors. He has a BS in Meteorology with a Minor in Mathematics, an MS in Computer Science and an MBA. He is originally from the Chicago area but has resided in the Seattle Area for the last 16 years.
