Message from the Dean (cntd.)
A leader in our Engineering Department will be out in mid-October to talk about our Energy Systems and Engineering Management Masters programs. The same week a veteran of the MLS soccer, Boston Celtics and Atlanta Braves who leads our Sports Leadership program will be here. A week later our faculty leader in Health Informatics – the integration of health care and the digital revolution – will be here to talk about that program. And our Halloween guest will be in the fast-moving biotechnology area to meet with folks interested in creating their expertise and credentials in Biotechnology. See the accompanying article. You can register right now for the Sports Leadership and Engineering sessions we will have in mid-October.
I have been amazed to experience first-hand in the last year how quickly the education landscape is transforming. I attach a thoughtful article, The Traditional University Lecture is Dead, which analyzes the transformation now underway. I see it everyday in talking to workers who visit our campus and express appreciation for the flexible online and hybrid format our programs are delivered in. I sit on the board of Shoreline Community College which is experiencing significant growth in its online virtual college. All higher education institutions should be mindful of this transformation in what our students want, and work together to develop best practices to deliver quality educational content in a format and delivery system that meets the needs of today’s population. Technology and strategic planning are creating amazing possibilities for our nation’s schools and citizens.
