Message from the Dean (cont.)
I am involved in several initiatives to move this region forward, and welcome your ideas on all of them. First, The Metropolitan Seattle Regional Leadership Conference this fall is focusing on the Seattle region’s global competitiveness, with the goal of producing key data on how this region measures up, identifying 3-4 areas we really need to focus on, and developing a very specific action agenda. Second, I am speaking to the City of Seattle Economic Development Commission, which is also trying to identify very specific steps this city and region can take to provide family wage jobs and with innovative companies in the years to come.
My Seattle team hosted many neighbors from Amazon this week – 12,000 of whom work just across the street – in a social reception. Northeastern has placed 20-30 Co-op students at Amazon for six month experiences, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for many years. This summer we have 38 Co-op students at Amazon, adding value and getting an invaluable experiential learning experience.
What a magnificent summer this region is enjoying! I hope you are enjoying it. Come on by any day to discover our Seattle campus and get acquainted.
