Dean and CEO
Dave has a background in human machine systems engineering and 25 years of experience at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), initially as a software engineer, then as a data visualization researcher, and later as a manager of their computing and data analytics research portfolio. Before coming to Northeastern, he was the Director of PNNL’s Seattle Research Center, just down the street from campus. As Dean & CEO of Northeastern in Seattle, Dave is responsible for defining and executing the campus strategic plan, which includes expanding academic programs, providing innovative and beneficial co-curricular programming, overseeing campus operations and expansion activities, and building experiential learning partnerships with companies and community organizations. His favorite part of the job is getting to know students and understanding their backgrounds and ambitions in order to ensure that Northeastern is always helping them meet their goals. Dave grew up with four generations of family in a small town outside of Portland, Oregon where cows likely outnumbered people.
Paula holds a Master’s of Education and a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her Bachelor’s is in Radiologic Sciences from the University of Health Sciences at Chicago Medical School. She has over 30 years of higher education administration experience, heaving served as vice president of economic and workforce development at Bellevue College, dean of continuing education and workforce development at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and faculty development specialist at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. At Northeastern, Paula leads academic and student affairs, including degree and certificate programs, support for regional faculty, experiential learning, student advising, career services, and overall support for students. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with students and observing their achievements as they progress through their programs and into their careers. Paula is originally from Wisconsin and Illinois but has spent the last 20 years in the Pacific Northwest.
Student Support Specialist
Brielle is a recent graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Prior to working at Northeastern, Brielle worked in student affairs, counseling, and advocacy programs for transfer students at UC Berkely. Brielle plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Higher Education in the near future. As the Student Support Specialist for Northeastern’s regional campuses, Brielle is the point of contact for wellness support, both related and not related to COVID-19. Brielle helps students access resources on campus and supports them through trying times. She loves working one-on-one with students and supporting initiatives, programs, and events across the regions. Brielle was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She plans to visit the Seattle campus (and all of the other regional campuses!) when time and public health permits!
Associate Director, Career Services & Experiential Learning
Patrick earned a master’s degree in education, focused on college student services administration, from Oregon State University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Washington University. He has spent his entire career so far working in higher education and career services, having started this wonderful journey in 1993 as a new student at WWU. Patrick supports Northeastern students in all aspects of career development while also engaging employers to hire students into co-ops, internships, and sponsored XN projects. He especially enjoys seeing students experience career, academic, and life “success.” He also has a lot of fun collaborating with colleagues in college and campus teams. Patrick has lived in the beautiful Pacific Northwest his entire life and grew up on the Olympic Peninsula in the greater Bremerton/Silverdale area. He loves living on the west coast and now calls West Seattle home.
Director of Student Affairs & Planning
Gina Copping acts oversees the learner experience for Seattle Campus students, ensuring quality throughout all aspects of their graduate program. Her previous career experiences revolved around early childhood education and teaching English in Japan. She holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Santa Clara University and a master’s in comparative education from University College London’s Institute of Education. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education through Northeastern.
At Seattle Pacific University, Stephanie earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature. She then worked in admissions and student services at the University of Washington Medical School, both in the Physician Assistant Program (MEDEX) and the Medical Scientist Training Program, for almost 6 years. At Northeastern University–Seattle, Stephanie is the campus recruiter. This means responding to potential student inquiries, organizing recruitment efforts, staffing outreach events, and guiding candidates into the right degree program for them. She loves working with potential students and helping them achieve the first step towards their dream careers. Stephanie moved to Seattle for college but is originally from Agoura Hills in Southern California.
ITS Support Specialist
Tom has a lifelong love of computers and technology, along with an extensive background in customer service. At Northeastern, he supports faculty, staff, and students from all the regional campuses with their IT and tech needs. He loves being able to solve problems and making sure that our faculty and students have exactly what they need to succeed. Tom was born in Southern California but moved to the Seattle area when he was a kid. Living in the Pacific Northwest has nurtured his love for all things outdoors.
Regional IT Manager
Desiree holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Illinois. She has enjoyed spending most of her career working in higher education in various technology-focused roles, starting as a student work study at a law school and developing it into a professional career. At Northeastern, she supports daily technology needs across all the regional campuses and enjoys helping faculty, staff, and students. Desiree grew up living in the Midwest and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She has always enjoyed living near mountains.
Marketing and Communications Manager
Twinkle brings more than six years of experience in digital and traditional marketing. She holds a UW-PCE Certification in Digital Marketing and a UW-PCE Certification in Marketing Analytics. She also holds an MBA in Marketing and Retail from KC College in Mumbai, India. At Northeastern, Twinkle leads brand visibility and overall marketing strategy for the Seattle Campus. She creatively integrates marketing campaigns to build awareness, promote programs, and support recruitment efforts. Twinkle was born and raised in Mumbai and moved to Seattle five years ago.
Assistant Director of Student Affairs
Aaron’s formal education started with a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Babson College and a Master of Arts in higher education administration from Boston College. His learning continued in the field of student affairs at a variety of colleges and universities prior to Northeastern with a focus on student conduct, residential life, working with students with disabilities, and striving for equity and social justice in higher education. Aaron is the main point of contact for all student issues outside of the classroom, assisting students from all programs and colleges. This includes overseeing affinity groups, the student leader cohort, and the NU Fund Me proposal program as well as providing frontline support to students in crisis and those managing complex and multifaceted issues impacting their academic careers. Aaron grew up in Southern California and spent a formative decade in Boston before settling in Seattle.
Anne Maria Jacobson
Associate Director of Operations
Anne Maria Jacobson works closely with the Seattle team to assist in fulfilling their objectives and keep the campus running seamlessly. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s from Southern Utah University. Prior to joining Northeastern University—Seattle, Jacobson was the board administrator and special projects manager for the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. She has also had the good fortune to work for the 2002 Winter Olympics and Jim Henson Productions.
Director of Partnerships and Planning
David holds two degrees from Gonzaga University: a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Spanish. At Northeastern, David leads the Seattle Campus’s efforts in connecting with the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. He believes the best part of his job is finding ways for the campus, faculty, and learners to become a resource in helping the Puget Sound region continue to thrive. David grew up in Boise, Idaho, where he was immersed in the vibrant and active Basque community that is concentrated throughout the southern part of the state.
Richard Landowski supports the Seattle team in various administrative functions, from event planning to creation of printed and digital media. He has a bachelor’s degree from Seattle University in French and history. Before working at Northeastern, Richard taught English in France and French in Seattle. He has a keen interest in languages and history and enjoys pursuing a variety of creative interests.
International Student Advisor
Angela holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University and a Master of Science in Global Studies from Northeastern. Previously, she worked in D.C. and abroad for NGOs facilitating international exchange and citizen diplomacy. Since 2015, Angela has worked in higher education to support international students. She had previously advised F-1 students at Seattle Central College and University of Washington. At Northeastern, Angela advises and supports international students in maintaining their visa status and helps them connect with the university’s full range of resources. Her favorite part of the job is anything that makes it easier for international students to have an equitable and rewarding U.S. educational experience — whether that’s through clear advising, efficient document processing, or collaborating with colleagues to enhance overall student services. Before moving to Seattle in 2014, Angela spent most of her life in the D.C. area and mid-Michigan. She had also spent around four years living in Russia and the Republic of Georgia.
Assistant Director, Global Learner Support
Jeremy holds a Master of Arts in applied linguistics and TESOL as well as a Doctor of Education with a focus on curriculum, teaching, learning, and leadership. He taught English as a second language in various capacities for 10 years to adult learners in South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam. At Northeastern, Jeremy manages the Global Learner Support program on the West Coast regional campuses, which provides students, staff, and faculty with cultural, academic, language, and professional support. In addition, he advises and teaches students enrolled in the Global Pathways program and collaborates regularly with the International Enrollment Management team on international student recruitment efforts. Jeremy enjoys getting to know the students and understanding their journey from pre-arrival to graduation. Additionally, as a lifelong learner and lover of cultures, he benefits daily from the interactions and conversations with the students whom he teaches and supports. Jeremy is originally from Central Illinois but was educated in England and spent most of his adult life living and teaching in Asia.
Yash assists the Director of Operations in projects currently being executed. This primarily involves organizing and processing organizational feedback for new space concepts, determining highest needs for the new spaces, and reporting concepts to the space planning committee. Yash also participates in all design planning meetings and tracks action items for each member of the committee. He enjoys being able to give input and gaining new skills and experiences which will further aid his career as a project manager. Yash grew up in Delhi, India and has a background in project and construction management.
Khoury College of Computer Sciences
Professor of the Practice, Director of Khoury College of Computer Sciences in Seattle
Ian has a PhD in computer science from Sheffield Hallam University and an extensive background in the field of computer sciences. Prior to Northeastern, he was a senior member of the technical staff at the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute, working on projects focused on the principles of designing massively scalable software architectures for Big Data applications and building knowledge bases both manually and using machine learning to support engineering tasks. Before joining the SEI, Gorton was a laboratory fellow in computational sciences and math at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory where he managed the Data Intensive Scientific Computing research group and was the chief architect for PNNL’s Data Intensive Computing Initiative. He is a senior member of the IEEE Computer Society and a fellow of the Australian Computer Society. Until July 2006, he led the software architecture R&D at National ICT Australia in Sydney, and previously worked at CSIRO, IBM, Microsoft, and in academia in Australia. His passion is analyzing and designing complex, high-performance distributed systems, and embodying design and architecture principles in methods and tools that can be exploited by architects in other projects. Assistant Teaching Professor
Tamara received her doctoral degree in 2015 from the University of Washington. Her dissertation research merged several different areas—privacy and security, robotics, bioengineering, networking, and ethics. This interdisciplinary research allowed her to recognize and experience the importance of diverse voices, perspectives, and expertise in computer science research and education. It has also inspired her long-term research focus—privacy, security and societal impact of emerging technologies. As a teaching professor, Tamara gets to interact and collaborate with many amazing students, through classes, mentoring, and various research projects. Interacting with students is absolutely the best part of her job. Tamara grew up in Europe, in beautiful Croatia. Prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest, she lived in Vancouver, BC. Each of these places has inspired her and helped shape her into who she is today.
Chandra has a doctoral degree in computer science from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research at the University of Bombay. His background is in research, engineering management and consulting, with a focus on addressing real-world problems in artificial intelligence specifically in the areas of natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning. After working at the National Centre for Software Technology, Bombay, Chandra spent three years at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1998 to 2010, he was a researcher at Microsoft and Microsoft Research, Redmond, working on search, text mining, news dissemination, human computation, and related areas. He then worked at the news-dissemination startup Evri.com, and later at ProQuest, Seattle. At Northeastern, Chandra enjoys getting students to understand that learning is fun by itself, and in turn learning with them as they ask thought-provoking questions. He finds great joy in the achievements of his students as they go through life. Chandra spent about half of his life in India, in Chennai, New Delhi, and Mumbai. The rest has been mostly in Seattle, with stints in Philadelphia, Beijing and Pittsburgh.
Abigail completed her undergraduate degree in English at Bowdoin College in Maine. After graduating, she worked for an education technology company in the United Kingdom for a number of years. She then returned to the United States to complete a master’s in technology, innovation, and education at Harvard University, and finally a PhD in information science at the University of Washington. Her research has been at the intersection of human-computer interaction and learning sciences. At Northeastern, Abigail teaches courses in the Align bridge and electives in human-computer interaction. She particularly enjoys seeing the Align students grow in skills and confidence. Abigail grew up in Norwich, England.
Assistant Director of Graduate Advising & Student Services
Caitlin is an academic advisor and student services coordinator for students in the Master of Science in Computer Science program Northeastern University Seattle. She also coordinates co-curricular and career-focused events and manages student employees for Khoury College. She has spent time on both coasts, growing up in the Seattle area before moving to Western Massachusetts to attend Mount Holyoke College for her undergraduate education and the University of Massachusetts for her master’s degree programs in higher education and public policy and administration. She previously worked in a variety of student and academic affairs offices at colleges and universities in Massachusetts with a focus on academic success, student services, and service learning. Her master’s-level research focused on access and success for marginalized students in higher education, student activism, and scholar-practitioner identity in student affairs professionals.
Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator
Paco received a Master of Education with an emphasis on Counseling Psychology and Career Services from Washington State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Gonzaga University. At Northeastern, Paco uses his background in experiential learning and career services to prepare students for their co-op opportunities. He teaches the graduate career preparation course and works with students throughout the process, as well as lending a hand to employer outreach. He enjoys seeing students succeed in their career goals from internship or co-op all the way to their full-time careers. He loves the small conversations with students about their career aspirations. Paco grew up in the Philippines but came to the United States for college and graduate school. He has now lived in the US for longer than the Philippines and believes that his most formative years have been a combination of exposure to these two cultures in which he grew up.
Associate Teaching Professor
Tony received his bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Washington. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in linguistics at Trinity College, Dublin, and finally a doctoral degree in natural language processing at the University of Groningen. This led to his research work in natural language processing and machine learning, and eventually to academic work in computer science. Working with highly motivated, passionate graduate students throughout the master’s program is wonderful. But as someone who came to computer science via an indirect path, Tony feels a particular affinity for students making the challenging transition into computer science from another background. Tony grew up in the Seattle area, but spent most of his 20s and 30s living in Europe and Japan.
Graduate Admissions Counselor
Uji attended Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA, where she received a BA in Environmental Studies. She later received a Master’s of Science and Policy from the University of Delaware. Uji helps support students throughout the entire application process for multiple Khoury College of Computer Sciences programs offered the Seattle campus. She hosts events and works with students one on one to help them see their transition to computer science. As a child of a United Nations diplomat, Uji grew up all over the world. She has loved creating communities wherever she goes and is very excited to be in Seattle meeting new people and building a new home. Uji loves helping people see their potential and explore careers they never thought were possible.
Director of West Coast Graduate Student Services
Jackie received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Arts in student development administration from Seattle University. Inspired by her own experiences in higher education, she focused her research on learning communities and the experiences of first-generation college students. At Northeastern, Jackie oversees co-ops, student advising, course coordination, partnerships, and administrative initiatives across the Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, and Vancouver campuses. She was born and raised in Seattle.
Computer Science–Assistant Clinical Professor
Adrienne Slaughter holds a BS in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MA in learning, design, and technology from Stanford University, and a PhD in computer science and engineering from the University of Washington. Previous to Northeastern, Slaughter worked at multiple startups and spent many years at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She has also spent time at MSR, Intel Research Seattle, and Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratory. Her work has straddled the areas of human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing and mobile devices, user research, and data science.
Business and Outreach Director
Mary started her career in commercial banking after graduating from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in finance. She worked for a decade as a commercial television producer in New York and the Washington, D.C. region, and also as a film commissioner to bring film projects to Washington. Prior to Northeastern, she worked for the State of Washington in economic development, leading a great team in attracting investment into the state and in expanding international trade opportunities for Washington-based companies. The primary goal of her role at Northeastern is to connect our students with industry and create a range of opportunities for our corporate partners and students to build relationships that ideally lead to employment. The opportunities in computer science are vast and continue to grow, which is why it’s important to introduce students from a wide range of backgrounds into the field. Mary loves creating an environment of opportunity for students. She grew up in Dundee, Illinois, and spent these defining years outdoors running around or riding her horse through neighboring fields – not something that would be easy to do today.
Fei Fei received her PhD in second language studies from Michigan State University. Her research interests include computer-assisted second language learning and teaching, second language reading, writing and vocabulary acquisition, and task-based language teaching. Previously, Fei was an instructor in the Department of English at the University of Indianapolis, where she taught the psycholinguistics course at the TESOL master program. She also taught writing and ESL courses at various levels in China and in the U.S. A life learner of foreign languages, Fei is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, and intermediate in German.
College of Engineering
Andrei Guschin joined Northeastern University–Seattle in 2015. He is teaching at the MSIS program, specializing in digital product management and other managerial courses for engineers. Prior to this role, he taught graduate students at the Foster School of Management, University of Washington, where he specialized in technology entrepreneurship, product management, and sustainable product design and development. Gus chin previously taught at the College of Business and College of Engineering at the American University of Armenia, the first and only U.S.-accredited institution in the former Soviet Union. Courses included Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, Managing Information Systems, Production and Operation Management, and Supply Chain Management. He also taught corporate innovation to MBA students at the Sauder School of Management at the University of British Columbia.
Before getting into teaching, Dr. Guschin was a research scientist at MIT, Ford and Russian Academy of Sciences. He also cofounded a clean tech company, Bionavitas, where he led research and development of the LIT™ photobioreactor technology. Guschin was also a consultant to technology startups and large companies, specializing in product, partner, and business development.
Dr. Guschin has been serving on Advisory Council, Business Leaders for Climate Solutions, since 2010. He also was chairing several committees at MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest, where he helped technology entrepreneurs to make fewer mistakes.
Guschin has a PhD in mathematics and physics from the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as an MS in applied mathematics and physics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He also studied at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Terri graduated in 2016 from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in economics and double minor in education studies and German. She received a master’s degree in public administration from UW in 2018. Before joining Northeastern, Terri worked as an academic tutor and counselor for WholeRen Education for about a year and a half. Her primary duty on campus is to help and support all COE students in areas such as course registration, tracking academic standing, and monitoring graduate clearance. She is also involved in planning for orientation, graduation celebration, and other events or programs that benefit COE students. As a person with an international student background, Terri cares a lot about the community and enjoys the chance to serve this student population throughout her work. She was born and raised in Beijing, China until the age of 18 and lived in Los Angeles for four years while attending UCLA. She has lived in Seattle for almost four years now.
Cooperative Education Faculty and Assistant Director, West Coast
Kelsey holds a Master of Education from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University. She is currently pursuing Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, studying women and minorities in STEM through Northeastern University. Kelsey supports the West Coast campuses for the College of Engineering, focusing primarily on the cooperative education program. As faculty of cooperative education, Kelsey supports students from the moment they arrive on campus to help them realize their career goals and begin their internship search. She takes great pride in being able to support students in this important and exciting journey and help them to develop their professional identity. Kelsey is a native of Boston, and prior to moving to Seattle in 2018 she taught sustainability at Harvard University, spending as much time around the Charles River as possible. Kelsey has lived and taught in multiple countries in South Asia. She received a Fulbright Fellowship in Malaysia and teaching fellowships in India and Indonesia. Kelsey’s work in cross-cultural exchange has been recognized by former Secretary of State John Kerry and former President Barack Obama.
Data Analytics Engineering
Jie has a doctoral degree in industrial and systems engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her research focusses on stochastic optimization and machine learning for different application problems. As a teaching faculty in data analytics engineering, she teaches courses in machine learning, operations research, and statistics. She also would like to mentor students and explore collaborations with faculty members on research problems in these areas.

Associate Director, Academic Advising & Program Operations
Megan has an educational background in sociology, anthropology, and higher education administration. She received her master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from University of San Francisco and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University. Megan serves as the Associate Director, Academic Advising & Program Operations at CPS , supporting program development on the west-coast. With her past experience in student-facing roles, she enjoys working on systems-wide programming and initiatives that are grounded in improving the student experience. Megan was born and raised south of Seattle, where she grew up exploring the different corners of the Pacific Northwest by hiking and camping with her family. After some time in San Francisco, she returned to Seattle in 2016 to be closer to family again. She can be found happily expanding her garden, cooking, and listening to music.
Dr. Kennedyd has over 20+ years of experience in business process reengineering, IT systems development, managing complex projects, data analysis and strategic business consulting with various companies such as AOL, Fannie Mae, Charles E. Smith, Verizon, and USAC before transitioning into a full-time academic teaching in operations management, project management and strategic management.
As an educator, before joining Northeastern University graduate school, he has served as an Assistant Professor of Management at Kean University – Wenzhou China and Northern New Mexico College in Espanola New Mexico, where his primary responsibilities included teaching, research and developing undergraduate level curricula for operations management and project management. In addition to teaching, he has been providing corporate training sessions in project, program, and agile management to professionals from all backgrounds across many countries.
Dr. Kennedyd has earned a PhD in Strategy, Program and Project Management from SKEMA Business School in Lille – France, an MBA in eBusiness from John Hopkins University. He has also achieved the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from the Project Management Institute (PMI). His research is currently concentrated in the areas of agile project management, electronic commerce, virtual communication in projects and the connected workplace issues.

Director of CSSH Programs
Ann holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science and Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). She received a master’s in public health, focused on environmental health, from UCLA. At Northeastern, Anne promotes and raises awareness for the Security and Resilience programs and Urban Informatics masters and certificate programs. She also promotes other CSSH degree offerings that may be a part of what is available at the Seattle campus. She is impassioned by meeting people who are interested in this exciting and diverse program, and she enjoys helping them strategize on how the program can help them with their long-term career goals. Ann grew up on a farm in Wisconsin before heading off to college, and then Germany, the Peace Corps in Ecuador, Atlanta, Los Angeles and finally the Pacific Northwest. Growing up in a small town not only taught her about resilience and dedication, but also about being prepared to be mobile and to tackle new challenges and environments.
